Yesterday I received an e-mail alert from the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida (ARFF) regarding " a coin operated game that uses live lobsters at the Royal Palm Ale House in Royal Palm Beach. In this game, the object is to pluck live lobsters out of the water with a joystick-controlled crane."

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!). In Asia they are even commonly kept as pets!

PETA has launched a spoof site for the Vancouver Olympic Games over seal hunting. I criticize PETA a lot, but in this case I think they are right on the money. I hate the seal slaughter. I think it's barbaric and should be ended. You can go on and on about tradition, but just because something is old doesn't make it good.

Old-speciesists have a rights view of at least some humans but a utilitarian view of nonhumans (18). Would intelligent beings riot over the out come of a soccer game? In some sense, of course, many (perhaps most) humans don't know right from wrong. Smoke, eat, and drink themselves to death?
