One of my most memorable outings was a night-time game drive in Kenya when we saw an aardvark and a zorilla, so we ticked off both the first mammal in the field guide’s index, and the last. They will also kill any water birds they can capture, from Kingfishers to Mallard.

Together with African Kori Bustard (which I observed on a camping trip in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve), this is the heaviest flying bird in the world. Beside natural grasslands, they breed in arable fields (primarily alfalfa) where there is no grazing, but they risk being killed by combine harvesters. m–8 ft 10 in).

In all European Union countries to the north and east of Serbia (except Romania), Turtle Doves are strictly protected. And on their way south, they reach the killing fields of northern Serbia ( Newsweek on poaching in the Balkans ). And that flight is illegal because EU legislation does not allow export of game meat from Serbia to EU.
