Sharks are a regular feature on television channels like the Discovery Channel, with even entire weeks devoted to this majestic sea creature. Shark finning is the practice of removing fins from live sharks with sharp tools, and then tossing the shark back into the ocean.

Its amazing to me that there are still places on earth where wildlife is blissfully unafraid of humans. It comes as no surprise that this was one of Jacques Cousteau’s favorite places and he filmed the area and its wildlife extensively for his tv series. Even people with no other interest in wildlife, who couldn’t tell a sparrow from an ostrich (or even a dolphin from a fish) love dolphins. Dolphins are basically just smart sharks that breath air. Like I said, at least the sharks are honest in their sharky ways. Which has always mystified me slightly.

Washington wildlife officials say eight sea lions have been found dead in the Puget Sound region in recent weeks — all apparently shot. KING-TV reports that both the state Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are investigating the deaths.
