Every single species, even the European Starlings above, count as one bird on the year’s checklist. At Crocheron Park I was met by White-throated Sparrows , Mourning Doves , a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker , and, wait, what’s that flash of yellow? Or, at least, I was hoping it had. First I had to go look for it.

I got myself 4 lifers ( Least Flycatcher , Eastern Bluebird , Field Sparrow, and Indigo Bunting ) before a downpour ended the excursion. If you are fortunate like me in the business of sewage, grime, litter and dirt, your travel will inevitably lead you to a wastewater treatment plant with swallows and other birds all around you.

Case in point: some of my family members have become active with feral cat colony organizations. On the one hand, it’s better than doing nothing with a feral cat colony. But I don’t agree with the supplemental feeding that happens with feral cats–if you’re gonna call them wildlife, treat them as such.
