Here in the UK they were exterminated 400 years ago, but in recent years they have become re-established as a result of escapees from farms. Rabbits have become surprisingly scarce close to home, but I don’t have to go far to see warrens of them, with as many as 30 or 40 in one field. and Mountain Hares in Scotland and Scandinavia.

They took dogs to Australia, chickens across the Pacific, rabbits to England, horses to the New World, and then brought potatoes back. Brush-tailed Possums were brought from Australia to help start a fur industry. Rabbits are still an agricultural pest. In many ways, that is exactly what happened.
