On Dogs and Unconditional Love

No playing with little white dogs, which isn't uncommon for greyhounds. He was 85 pounds (large for a greyhound), very muscular (odd for a greyhound) and spectacularly gorgeous, with Pharaoh Hound-like ears. Far more than a diabetic greyhound. No greyhounds were forced to race in the above photo.

Would I ever say I restrict my diet to food that wasn't made from the parts of creatures as sentient as the greyhounds I share my home with? The kids prepared Buddhist delight that "conformed to Buddhist dietary restrictions." Something about the word "restrictions" annoys me. I don't think of that as a restriction. One is male.

On Stanley and Family Commitments

Violet's a member of our family. So when we adopted a human baby we knew we'd have to teach that human to avoid Violet. The growing little human in the house was basically taught to stay far away from dogs and respect their space. If Violet can be said to love anyone, it's other greyhounds.
