Millions of Red-eyed Vireos, Eastern Kingbirds, Chimney Swifts in Costa Rica- All Heading North

Many Red-eyed Vireos have seen Harpy Eagles , have kept still upon hearing the haunting calls of forest-falcons. All of those birds also fly to and from the woods of Pennsylvania to parts of the Amazon rainforest and back. The same can be said of Scarlet Tanagers, Canada Warblers and Eastern Wood-Pewees.

At 8, everything was far away, distant, and foreign, even Pennsylvania. We were going to make the long drive to far away Pennsylvania and stay in the cabin for a few precious, amazing days. They were waiting in the wild places but how could I get there? Fred talked to us now and then about the wild and wooded state.

Aplomado Twitch in Costa Rica

They take the form of a White-winged Tern that got lost somewhere over the Atlantic and ended up in Pennsylvania. Although the Aplomado Falcon is on the list, it’s not resident and there are few records, most of which seem to pertain to juveniles that wander into the country at this time of year.

There’s Hawk Mountain, Pennsylvania, of course, and that little known Cape May place in New Jersey, not to mention others like Fort Smallwood in Maryland and even Fort Tilden in Queens, New York, which gets some press on the occasions that Corey swings by. Hawkwatches on the northern half of the Appalachians get a lot of press.
