Rosefinches, Griffons and Woodcocks

I have observed it previously in India, but never in Europe… but will have to settle with a voice and no sight. The adult Griffons are used to humans and are not stressed by the visitors, but some nests are really low – the lowest being a mere 5 metres above water and chicks sometimes get scared enough to fall into the lake.

Godwits are bad ambassadors of conservation

It breeds in a broad and not quite coherent band from Iceland in the west through central Europe and southern Scandinavia all the way to eastern Russia, wintering in Africa, parts of India, and Southeast Asia to Australia. Aspect one is feeding when humans are not around.

A few do breed in Europe, on the extreme north-east of European Russia. Many years ago the journal British Birds published a note from an observer who had watched Turnstones scavenging from a human corpse that had washed up on the tideline. These were dark-bellied birds from Russia.
