Sea lions are killed here for eating salmon. We all know that it's not the sea lions' fault that the salmon runs are either threatened or endangered. It's the humans' fault through overharvesting, the use of fish hatcheries, hydropower dams (like Bonneville) and the decimation of habitat. It really makes me angry.

All the inhabited continents except Africa have experienced bird extinctions; however the 2012 update of the IUCN Red List shows a startling, but not altogether unexpected, trend in that more and more of our bird species are facing extinction. What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. I am not anti-hunting or anti-fishing. Speculation is useless in acts of vandalism.

There are times when acting in the conservation interest of a species or ecosystem means that the welfare of specific animals is compromised, which is a fancy way of saying that conservationists sometimes have to kill animals for the greater good.
