I’ve not made spectacular progress writing up my trip to Africa earlier this year, so perhaps I should get on that. So instead let’s talk about South Africa’s best kept birding secret (at least outside of the country) Wakkerstroom. A bit closer to town I checked out some hides overlooking ponds.

Botswana’s Private Reserves

The reserve, in the eastern corner of Botswana near Zimbabwe and South Africa, isn’t open to the public in general, so I figured I’d share a few images here by way of showing off. Red-crested Korhaans are attractive members of the bustard family. I mean education. Red-faced Mousebirds are common African specialities.
