Many dogs are rescued out of abusive or traumatic situations, causing them to exhibit a wide variety of emotional and behavioral problems. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t make great companions for the right adoptive family. Juliet and Foxy, a Terrier mix and a Chow Chow/Cocker Spaniel mix, are my rescues.

When adopting a rescue there are added considerations on selecting the right dog for your lifestyle. Right at the top of the list is the awareness that your new rescue has a shady history, especially if it was a stray. The longer a dog is at the shelter the more it will impact their emotional state.

Or paid for food for a year at a rescue kennel. Of course, I have an emotional attachment to that one individual, Violet Rays. What about the individuals right there in the laboratory? Or printed thousands of copies of vegan leaflets. But that's utilitarian thinking. Don't those individuals matter?

I do what I do because it's the right thing to do--not because I want a reward or fear punishment. I rescue, I adopt, I do TNR, and I connect others to resources to do the same. I get so sad when I hear about the mistreatment of animals that it really affects me, but at the same time I want to be able to create change in the world.
