… – part 2 – Once I finish this writing, with a strange mix of emotions I will put the Lynx field guide Birds of Colombia to the bookshelf for the first time, more than half a year after I received it. Lucky him, right? This is a juvenile Grey-headed Fish Eagle , unless it is another fish eagle like the Lesser (the lack of any grey head makes me doubt the identification a bit, but it seems juveniles cannot afford a grey head yet). Back to birds. Though he ended up dead anyway.

Look at the facts, lay your emotions aside and listen to reason—exactly the same reasoning that’s been so persuasive in convincing me that hunting cranes is the right thing to do. Many people similarly feel sentimental about Bald Eagles, what with their being the national symbol, but that is just an example of misplaced emotion.

Non-human beings have traditionally thought of on a basically immoral level…they lack any intrinsic values, are incapable of thoughts and emotions, and are only worth how good of a coat they make or how good they taste. Many of today’s most prominent religions have perpetuated this view.

Mid-winter, low sun occasionally blotted by deep, rain-filled cloud, a stiff breeze plays a constant tune in the masts and wires of the assembled fishing fleet in the small, natural rocky harbour nestled on the Irish coast. And, the best thing was that it did not require tapes, just the right habitat and good ears and patience.
