And on the road, an elephant rules it.

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!).

The two dogs walk right next to our rover and disappear in the dark.

Shot an elephant. Is it fair her life was destroyed because hers was public and mine was among family a decade ago? For being a girl that beat a guy in a computer game. For being a feminist with an opinion on comic books, or games. The mobs that once enforced “justice” in the streets now do so online.

These vast and rugged lands of savanna, hills, gorges and rivers still protect some of Ethiopia’s largest extant herds of typical African savanna game, including African Elephant, African Buffalo, Giraffe, Lion, Leopard, African Wild Dog and numerous species of grazers. Yellow-billed Stork.

The wonderful family Meropidae contains 27 dazzling species, of which Africa is endowed with no less than 20 species, the balance occurring across Asia and with one as far afield as Australia. These beaters usually take the form of grazing herds of game and domestic animals, and large flocks of carmine bee-eaters may gather overhead.

Jake lives in southern Florida, so he and his friends had to be interested in learning about these birds, which they saw everyday, right? The boys knew what Owls looked like, they saw Screech Owls (and Barred and Great Horned Owls) at a local wildlife park, and we photographed Burrowing Owl families every year at Brian Piccolo Park.
