That’s a threatened habitat, and one much sought after by wildlife enthusiasts. Rather than the usual dismal waiting area there were comfortable seats and drinks, and when our transports arrived, we were placed in two large four wheel drives rather than one, so that we wouldn’t feel cramped. Within Nariva Swamp is Bush Bush Wildlife Sanctuary, a sandy, low-lying peninsula populated by palms, strangler figs, and other hardy forest trees. Crisscrossed by 24″ pipelines transporting oil from numerous offshore platforms, oil companies exercised the strongest presence here.
