We sing about them, we paint them, we use them as mythic and poetic symbols for our spiritual and emotional feelings, we wear them in myriad and often colorful ways, we adopt them as household pets. Eagles are national symbols of the U.S., We worship birds, we hunt birds, we protect birds, and, yes, we eat birds.

The Lilac-breasted Roller is the national bird of Kenya, but of course, this does not help it pay its bills in South Africa. Due to some misallocation of bird species, I saw the Bateleur Eagle near Malelane, not near Bateleur Camp, where a more professional marketing team would have located the bird. Thanks for pointing that out.
