Massachusetts is probably an exception, as voters banned racing while tracks were still in operation, so that's a message about how they feel about dog racing that turned into a ban. The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages calls itself "an animal rights-protection-abolitionist organization," which I find interesting.

She had taken her border collie for a walk in the woods in the local 1200-acre state park, and her dog had stepped on a leghold trap. Astrid’s dog howled as she pried it off. The trap had been set in the woods right next to my house. A few years ago my friend Astrid called me on the phone. I’d released birds there.

You may recall that Massachusetts voters let their opinions about dog racing be heard when they voted to ban racing in their state. Rhode Island's only dog track, Twin River, will be "suspending" dog racing. And not every dog's career ends in death or broken bones. Here are a couple recent bits of good news.
