Call and transport the bird to a bird rehabber ASAP. Suspect” dog or cat interactions. Unfortunately a bird’s nest location is not always perfect.

The day before, the day I arrived, was a transport day, and that meant the pack hadn’t been seen in the afternoon. And the morning before the Mkuze pack of Painted Wolves, or African Wild Dogs, had been very close to one of the park’s few Lions, as far as tracking collars had told. Her concern was well founded.

To be 100% honest, I make sure to wear my camera whenever possible because I have the unfortunate habit of leaving my electronics on all modes of public transportation. Oblivious to its human surroundings, the egret was carefully picking its way down the grass between the hotels and the sand. The weekend had a promising start.

It has been a humbling 17 days as I walk the dogs early, shower, and get gussied up to sit in traffic for 1.5 hours on I-95 (we here in South Florida are known for our very limited public transportation options--boy do I miss NYC). Trying to program kids to accept the killing of someone they love is cruel. I am an abolitionist.
