So far as I can determine the swan was not officially granted status as the national bird of Denmark by law but by a popular vote held by either Danish Television or Denmark Radio. No, it seems that the Mute Swan derives its popularity in Denmark because of its role in “The Ugly Duckling&# by Hans Christian Andersen. Wicked, right?

Sadly, this population too went into a steep decline until only 57 animals were left in Germany in 1997, raising fears about their imminent extinction in the country. This is prohibited under German nature conservation laws and a moral no-go. This is a roe deer, not a hare. But even then, patience will usually pay off.

In " 'Animal Rights:' Pernicious Nonsense for Both Law & Public Policy ," Massachusetts attorney and "sportsman" Richard Latimer is on the mark with some concepts, and way off with others. It's too bad that Latimer's presentation is so obnoxious, as even when he raises what might be valid points, he makes you want to disagree with him.
