Arizona, or Central Mexico?

I got back into birding less than a decade ago, long after moving to Mexico in 1983. All sorts of exotic and beautiful species may be seen. This would sound attractive even to me, except for one fact: almost all of those exotic and beautiful species are common down here in central Mexico. I love Red-faced Warblers !

Endangered Species List, giving it free reign to wander and populate North America in ever increasing numbers, including a nest on the ledge of the U.S. And grow they did.

Winter Wanderland

I flew into Denver from Mexico. I might have to add the Dallas airport staff to the list of things Buffon was right about. My hosts could confidently tick off the species on their life list. We got at least three sub-species but the highlight was a Wilson’s Snipe we flushed. I ticked off 9 lifers.

Yes, Neil Hayward was in a position to break the Big Year record—748 species–of the fabled Sandy Komito, a feat that some birders said couldn’t be done (not so much for reasons of birding skill, but because of a different playing field , literally).

Birding Morelia

One of the advantages of Morelia as a birding/tourist destination is that we receive direct flights from Houston on United, Dallas/Fort Worth on American, and Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose (California), and Chicago/Midway on the Mexican carrier Volaris. One species of interest is more common on Punhuato than in los Filtros: the Spotted Wren.

(I Best of all, you can fly here direct from Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. But some others can only be seen down south.
