In March, Gutierrez changed his story and agreed to “cooperate with prosecutors,” so his 15 counts of animal cruelty were dropped to one. It is a documented fact that many predatory criminals begin young and focus on the animals who can’t escape them. Who suffers for these crimes? His sentencing date is July 6.

The suffering in this world that occurs at the hand of humankind and is entirely intentional, is disgusting and dispiriting. I choose not to watch videos or bombard myself with images of suffering. In other words, I don't immerse myself in animal cruelty. Can you please share your spiritual beliefs or coping mechanisms?

In fact, animals used for food do suffer a great deal. Not only are they killed in cruel ways, but it is well documented that they are raised in ways that cause them great discomfort and agony. Now there is no doubt that the actual treatment of animals used for food is immoral, that animals are made to suffer needlessly.

Wherever companies profit from cruelty, you can rest assured that they will try to hide that cruelty from consumers, because cruelty makes a rather poor PR statement. Because, despite a NY Times story designed to promote fur sales, real fur is associated with cruelty, and cruelty is never "in."
