It's bad enough having to deal with the welfare of normal farm animals, but what about the welfare of cloned animals? There was a picture on the bus commemorating the event with a picture of a cow looking, dare I say it, noble and long-suffering. Tags: depressed farm animal welfare. Perhaps it's because of gloomy October or maybe it's because I'm getting over the flu, but I felt very sad. How depressing.

I know on some level, I think that’s something almost all of us can get behind…no one, except the most callous and cold-hearted of the human race things its fine to torture animals, or deny that they are capable of pain and suffering. This narrow, frankly ignorant point of view is complete hypocrisy.

The underlying premise is that you can know what is right (such as me knowing what's right then eating cow flesh in the form of filet mignon for a year), but that by no means will necessarily manifest in your behavior. And the only way to totally alleviate that suffering is to not use the animal. I don't get why you can't do both.).

However, Jewish and Islamic groups which can prove animals do not suffer more during ritual killing than in an ordinary slaughterhouse will be able to apply for permits. This could halt production of kosher and halal meat in the Netherlands – and lead to similar campaigns in other European countries.

Farm animals also benefit from the humane farming movement, even if the animal welfare changes it effects are not all that we should hope and work for. Cows, domestic sheep, chickens and many others would not survive if they were not raised for human consumption, protected from malnutrition, disease and predators.
