The Lost Macaw of Cuba

This bird was in serious trouble by the mid-19th century due to the adults being killed for food and young being taken for pets. Several European zoos had this species in their collections at the time, but they either made no effort to breed it or it did not breed well in captivity. … Extinction is forever. What a horror!

Strangely, the photo accompanying the Wikipedia entry on Collared Finchbills , Asian birds, was taken at Cincinnati zoo. Of course, the Common Cuckoo is generally seen in a rather negative way due to its way of dealing with bringing up its chicks.
