Wrap-Up of 2012 Big Year Birding

A new Australian Big Year Record was set by John Weigel, who did his big year to raise money for Tasmanian Devil conservation. Not only that, but they raised money for the Houston Audubon Society and the Katy Prairie Conservancy. At 76 mammals and 431 birds they reached every single one of their goals!

Best Bird of the Year for 2015

This of course raises questions of what happens when all of the inland nesting grounds of all the loons becomes covered with glacial ice during ice ages, then later, the ice melts and the lakes return. Duncan chose a mammal! That special bird was an Arctic Tern seen on a beach in Caldera, Costa Rica towards the end of the year.
