However, the species sometimes referred to as the Barbary Duck appears very much out of place just about everywhere else. Not only are the individual ducks hard to look at, but in groups, the feral populations create the same messes other masses of waterfowl do. All Muscovies are large ducks with long talons and a wide flat tail.

And a very happy Masemas for anyone who observes my son Mason’s birthday (probably not as many as the last group!) Turkeys, 3 or 4 species of woodpeckers, all kinds of song birds grace our view constantly. I will be birding the foothill rainforests of Quebrada Gonzalez, Braulio Carrillo National Park, Costa Rica.
