It's farm country and you have a lot of farmers and ag types who treat companion animals as little better than livestock. And of course, let's not discuss factory farms down there. But, of course, highlighting that story grabs attention. It mirrors the lack of education and enlightenment of a generally poor area.

The veracity of this statement hinges on Scott's definition of "inhumane," and that definition must be very, very restricted, and clearly unrelated to the realities of our modern factory farm system. At this point of course I'm waiting to hear how he views "farm" animals differently.
