These two islands are about halfway between the tip of South Africa and Antarctica in the Subantarctic Indian Ocean, have had relatively few human visitors, and are primarily inhabited with some of the rarest seabirds in the world and a smaller number of mammals. We arose each morning at 4:30am to find out that we were late to the game.

His fur is growing mangy and patchy. His gagging fits – like a cat trying in vain to cough-up a hairball – are becoming more frequent. Grooming his fur. Like he was the human and she was the hamster. Hamlet’s organs were shutting down – it was the humane thing to do. Every two hours we played the pen cap game.
