PETA wants to run a campaign that compares factory farming to the Holocaust. The German constitutional court has ruled that animal rights organisation PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) must end its campaign in which it draws a comparison between the Holocaust and industrial farming.

From the campaign website : (Nov. 4, 2008) – Voters in California approved an historic ballot measure to halt the inhumane confinement of animals on factory farms by an overwhelming margin. on Prop 2 campaign. Prop 2 goes into effect in January of 2015, giving factory farms six years to shift to different housing systems.

Why and how do people campaign on behalf of a species that is not their own? The norm of moderate concern for animals - that animals matter albeit less than humans - permits the (ab)use of animals in vivisection, factory farming, bloodsports and other contexts where animals suffer. Sounds interesting.
