The family Picathartidae consists of two very unusual birds; White-necked or Yellow-headed Picathartes , endemic to the Upper Guinea forests of West Africa; and Gray-necked or Red-headed , restricted to Lower Guinea forests of Central Africa. Races gabonensis and inornatus intergrade in Nigeria; proposed races nigeriae (S Nigeria) and goodi (N Cameroon) not satisfactorily distinguishable from former and latter, respectively. I was vaguely curious about the family name mousebird. Gurney’s Sugarbird is not a name I made up.
