Birdlife South Africa has previously done two of these types of trips before, previously called Flock to Sea – Namibia in 2013 and Flock to Nowhere in 2017, in partnership with MSC Cruises. About half of all breeding Wandering Albatross nest on the Prince Edward Islands. Which makes it a haven for seabirds….and and seabirders.

Nyala, Southern Africa’s Stunning Antelope

Nyala are much appreciated by hunters and tourists, which has led to their being introduced to many parks and reserves around Southern Africa outside their natural range. The crest on the back becomes erect during breeding displays. The delicate markings if two male Nyala. A female Nyala in Imfolozi.

mi (almost exactly the same size as Indiana), it is one of the smaller provinces of South Africa, but is the second most densely populated with over 10 million inhabitants. They discovered Gurney’s Sugarbird during their time in South Africa. I live in a city called Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KwaZulu-Natal province.

Best Bird of the Year 2012

Considering the bird survived a season in an area saturated with hunters and birds of prey, this facemelting rarity deserves our respect. Secretive, silent and undetectable outside of its breeding season, found only in the U.S. I’m looking forward to putting it on my year list for the third year in a row.
