Guinea pigs also do not bite, unlike hamsters and gerbils which can tend to be nippy. Purebred or mixed breed? Many mutts you can get from the pound or animal shelter make terrific pets. I strongly encourage people to adopt pound and shelter animals. Aim for “fail-safe” pets – Kids are so impressionable.
