These dogs are homeless through no fault of their own, and by rescuing one of them, you may just save their life. If you don’t like to walk, don’t choose a herding breed.

Q: Although there are literally millions of pets in shelters, pounds and other ‘temporary housing’, many pet-owners-to-be don’t think about pet adoption when they’re looking for their new four-legged friend. A: Many people who want to get a pet just are not aware of how many pets are available at shelters.

There are conservation efforts to save these species by individual aquarists, who are keeping and breeding them in hopes that they can someday be reintroduced into the lake. For me, part if this goes to the question of whether or not we should breed or otherwise try to restore endangered species, in general.
