By constant harassment, egg ejection, and in some cases hatchling removal, the original owners abandon ship and the Piratic Flycatchers move in.

Big Day on a Tiny Island

It was an undeniably dank morning at the top of this island watershed, and even though we were able to discern some other species like Rufous-tailed Jacamar and the endemic Trinidad Motmot , activity was a bit slow. At the start of this new trail we accidentally flushed a White-tailed Nightjar that was sitting on a lone pink egg.

Best Bird of the Year 2012

Horned Guan by Adam Riley Mike was tempted to go with a guan as well, since he had the good fortune to encounter the Trinidad Piping Guan in the only country it can be found. Red Junglefowl by Mike Bergin Clare Kines chose an egg as his Best Bird of the Year. Definitely one of the highlights of my birding career!
