They can say that the puppy was needing to be re-homed, therefore it's like adopting from a rescue group. But I didn't campaign for a presidential greyhound for exactly the same reason Obama's decision was disappointing: it glorifies pure breed dogs.

Humane Society Exposes Petland Practices

It has about 140 stores nationwide that sell puppies that supposedly come from "good" breeders (are any breeders good? The investigation revealed that some of Petland's brokers are also buying from puppy mills. Some of the breeders were found with sick or dead dogs in their cages. but that's another post.)
