Furthermore we have another very special stork-like bird, the regal Shoebill , previously known as the Whale-headed Stork but now placed in its own family. It is quite a sight to experience hundreds of Abdim’s Stork dropping out of the skies from seemingly thin air, to gorge on burnt or fleeing insects and rodents.

It is not a concept for a total beginner, more of a reminder to someone with some experience. of January 2019, which resulted in 10,711 species, 40 orders, 246 families and 2,313 genera. My books weren’t helping much so I had resorted to looking for large green areas on Google Maps on the border of South Africa and Botswana, and I happened on Madikwe. A Shaft-tailed Whydah, a member of a small African family of cuckoo-finches. I had a look at the website and it looked interesting. But they are very cute!
