A sounder of Indian Boars is watching us from the jungle. They belong to a long-maned subspecies Sus scrofa cristatus (like four-legged Greco/Roman crested helmets) and are my second race of boar seen in India, while I still remain the only Serbian birder who has never seen one closer to home! One Chital is curiously watching us.

Back on dirt tracks by a Desert Wheatear decorated bush (bellow), to spot five or six Wild boars disappearing among the bushes. There’s a large eagle at the top of an acacia crown, we cannot tell which one, so we wait for it to take flight and show its colours… Finally – a Short-toed Snake Eagle ! Grey Heron Ardea cinerea.

We were met by several Cattle Egret in beautiful breeding plumage feeding on the grass right next to the train station. It was a good location to observe Brahminy Kites , White-bellied Sea Eagles , Grey-headed Fish Eagles , Oriental Pied Hornbills and Dollarbirds. There was something “not right” about it.

Two Wild Boars crossed our path, returning from the arable field where they fed overnight, to the safety of Beljarica. Park at the beginning of the route (driving along the levee is prohibited and the barrier is often closed and locked), but at the side – be sure not to block heavy lorries full of poplar trunks.
