An itinerant lifestyle, while wonderful in some regards, does not lend itself to forming certain connections. Even at our last stop of the day we managed to add a Savannah Sparrow and a new high count for Horned Grebe. While I enjoy birding with others, I’ve never really been part of the warp and weft of a birding community.

What could be plainer than the Eurasian Tree Sparrow ? When juvenile Chinese Blackbirds want to get an alcoholic drink at a bar, they usually blacken their yellow gape flanges in order to look older. This one seems to wonder about whether eating flies is the right lifestyle choice though. Sometimes it works.
