An itinerant lifestyle, while wonderful in some regards, does not lend itself to forming certain connections. While I enjoy birding with others, I’ve never really been part of the warp and weft of a birding community. It was only blocks away that we spotted our first Monk Parakeets.

Males are after a polygamous lifestyle, and will frequently mate with multiple females in a given breeding season…some literature describes this situation as a “harem”, where the female carries out all the nesting duties, there is no real pair bond, and a male has several mates. while the female has one primary mate.

When juvenile Chinese Blackbirds want to get an alcoholic drink at a bar, they usually blacken their yellow gape flanges in order to look older. This one seems to wonder about whether eating flies is the right lifestyle choice though. This one was on its own and thus allowed me to get relatively close. Sometimes it works.
