Grateful for My Yard Birds

My office closed early and my husband works alone in the woods, so we sheltered in place fairly early and avoided exposure. And yet, I miss my family and friends, and grieve for those around the world who are not as lucky as I have been. In terms of COVID-19’s effects on my life, I am currently one of the lucky ones.

Turdus “Blacky&# Merula sat near the trunk of the small evergreen in the backyard that was his territory’s centre, hunkered down and head tucked in to shelter from the rain. It sheltered him, it haunted him, and it set his thoughts adrift, to the warmth of spring and the family he had. All were long gone.
