I won't try to grab them, but I look out for them and chase the stray cats away. The birds know my voice and this one beat up looking squirrel actually comes right up to me. My yard is always so full of animals paying me a visit, that it's become a Disney princess satire.

Like several of my favorite NWRs, this one was established as a haven for migratory birds, most notably waterfowl, during the bad old days when uncontrolled hunting and habitat loss had put the future of even species we now think of as common in doubt. As a result, early migration season is an excellent time to visit.

First, it was really close to the road, close enough that the birds in the nest, if it was a nest at all, would feel the wind from the larger, faster passing semis. and in the world of birds, a pair of eagles qualifies. And, that bird might well do better than it otherwise might. Then, the nest was too low.
