It is not particularly big but has a reported 430 bird species including migrants, though during my short stay it seems I missed most of the key attractions among them. It goes like this: While fishing, the bird tucks its head down and uses its wings to create a shady area. Pel’s Fishing Owl, where were you?

The snake was wrapped firmly around the hawk’s tail, neck, and wings, and had enough strength to immobilize the bird but not to kill him. The snake had no puncture wounds, and was released 24 hours later. Key West Wildlife Center takes mostly birds, but will rescue mammals, marine mammals, and both land and sea turtles as well.

My parrots have nailed me harder than any wild bird,” said Jodi Swenson. My vets wanted to send me to the ER immediately, but I said ‘Forget it, I’ve got the damned bird restrained so I’m not letting go now!’ Needless to say the pelican jerked and the needle went straight through my thumb and stuck out the other side.

There are some very large crocodiles in the gorge despite them only being the smaller species of crocodile-namely “freshies” rather than “salties” Freshwater and Saltwater crocodiles can inhabit the same water systems, so you should never presume there is only one species present and either species can inflict wounds.
