Of course, excellent opportunity to go birding with my friends Brad and Laura. My colleague Doug wrote me an email describing the whereabouts of these “rosy finches” and my wife had to manage my excitement with horse tranquilizer… What a fantastic little birds. This is a simple grey and black bird but I have always wanted to see one.

Birdwatching Bilsa and Mache Chindul Reserve

On our lowland birdwatching trip we visited Rio Canande Reserve , Botrosa Road and then we also visited the nearby reserve of Mache Chindul; specifically we went to Bilsa Research Station of Jatunsacha Fundation. Although we did not hear or see this bird we saw many other great birds that live in this marvelous reserve.

Roadside Birding and Flathead Lake

One of the things I like best is squeezing a little birding in on non-birding trips. In short, as ways of birding go, it’s low-impact. Writing AND birding (AND, inevitably, a *ahem* few glasses of wine with fellow creative types)? Mammals were mostly represented by Mule Deer and a handful of debatable Elk.
