Their migration is quite fast compared to many other larger birds – in one study , several birds flew 4000 km within 5–7 days while one individual even flew 5600 km non-stop. That includes breeding birds, as indicated by the presence of some rather cute chicks ( video ). Also as video.

This year, it seems I wrote one post on birding in Shanghai each month – and I am still not even sure anyone is interested in these. Probably the most interesting bird this month was a Grey-headed Canary-Flycatcher showing up in the Shanghai Botanical Garden. I know – sexism is very common in the birding world.

How far is the closest human settlement? The species must be listed as a separate, full species by both of the most widely used ornithological bird lists, Sibley/Monroe and Clements. Only problem is, last time I checked there were no birds down there, let alone endemic ones. So we can rule that one out.
