Not as interesting as birds, but easier to get photos of – see a few at the end of this post, just put there in an uncaring way as I really went to St. Lucia for the birds. I sometimes wonder why green birds are relatively rare. On the other hand, “at the same time birds want to blend in, they also want to stand out.

It is flat open country as you approach Wolfe Creek Crater and to be perfectly honest we were not expecting to find too much bird-life around due to the complete lack of water other than what would be at cattle troughs. It was actually surprisingly windy and the birds could ride the thermals quite well. Camel bush. Mulla mulla.

Whenever you encounter one bird species near the edge of the track it is worth stopping, because invariably there are several species in the vicinity. As soon as you come close to flowering plants there are birds taking off all around you. Grevillea refracta have been flowering for many weeks and the birds are attracted to them.
