The Gas Station Bird

It’s under the jurisdiction of the Exotic Species Division of the Department of Environmental Protection, which is a division of US Fish and Wildlife. You can own a gorilla in Indiana, but not a bear in Michigan. The bird is a captive-bred Peregrine/Gyrfalcon hybrid owned by people with an Exotic Species Permit.

A Tale of Three Magnificent Frigatebirds (Two I help, one tries to kill me)

I happened to work at that facility, for International Bird Rescue at the Los Angeles Oiled Bird Care and Education Center , part of the Oiled Wildlife Care Network. In a quick review, you learn frigatebirds eat fish. The frigatebird we had in care in 2004 never ate the fish that we offered on her own. Oil was everywhere.

River Run

Unlike what you may have read, real rivers bear us ceaselessly into the future. There was plenty of time to try to convince the dogs that the people in the canoe were not in imminent danger and did not need to be rescued. Eventually the dogs jumped in to rescue the canoers, only to make for shore.
