The Kirtland’s Warbler is an endangered bird species that breeds primarily in the jack pine forests of northern Michigan. Specifically, the warbler’s primary breeding range is concentrated in a few counties in the northern Lower Peninsula and the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

It is the largest woodpecker in Europe (to describe its size, I’ll tell you that Goldeneyes breed in the holes this pecker makes). I haven’t seen any bear markings here, okay, the truth is I wasn’t really looking for scratches, but the national Brown Bear range map says that we are passing through permanently occupied part of the range.

Also from BirdLife International: In general it prefers areas where vegetation, boulders or other landscape features at ground level provide tunnels in which to shelter and to breed. Immature is overall brownish in colour with dark eye. Adults show various degrees of white barring on flanks and belly.
