Approximately one million hunters annually harvest more than 20 million Mourning Doves , which exceeds the annual harvest of all other migratory game birds combined 3. With all the research that has been done on lead vs non-lead bullets, there is no reason for ANYONE to use lead when hunting.

For my new book, due out in 2012 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, I’ve been researching sandhill crane hunting. Nationwide, wildlife watchers now outspend hunters 6 to 1. I’ve received letters and emails from a number of avid hunters who find the concept of shooting cranes repugnant.
