Powerful Owl in the Royal Botanical Gardens-Sydney

We had not observed a Powerful Owl since we were living in Portland, Victoria for a few months in 2009, so once the opportunity arose to go looking for one at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney we took it! Powerful Owls are the largest nocturnal bird in Australia and the largest of the owl species.

Gang-gang Cockatoos-a Christmas wish!

We have only observed Gang-gang Cockatoos twice before and once was a pair in New South Wales several years ago and ten years ago another pair in Victoria near Portland. There are numerous bird species that we only observe when we are many miles from home and some bird species we have rarely observed.

Protecting nesting birds

In October and November 2009 we spent time in Portland, Victoria with Grant’s work and it enabled us to see some new birds and animals along a very picturesque coast. The road from Melbourne to Portland is partly the Great Ocean Road and it is the world’s largest war memorial.
