All photos were taken in Australia in December 2016 – locations included Brisbane and surroundings, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Melbourne, and the coast near Melbourne.

The Southern Cassowary ( Casuarius casuarius ), often touted as the most dangerous in the world due to its powerful kick when provoked, is a large, flightless bird native to the tropical rainforests of northeastern Australia, New Guinea, and a handful of islands in the Moluccas.

Europe has one species (Eurasian Spoonbill), the Americas have one (Roseate Spoonbill), Australia two (Royal and Yellow-billed Spoonbill), and Asia has two as well (Eurasian and Black-faced Spoonbill). The benefit for the wasps is that they get to keep a beautiful pet. But this is too interesting a bird not to show.
