If you are plugged into the birding community, you’ve probably seen photos of this errant eagle, normally found in Russia and Asia but now be-bopping around the United States and Canada. Later, reflecting on the experience, we all noted how friendly, how positive, how helpful everyone acted that day on the wharf.

Godwits are bad ambassadors of conservation

It breeds in a broad and not quite coherent band from Iceland in the west through central Europe and southern Scandinavia all the way to eastern Russia, wintering in Africa, parts of India, and Southeast Asia to Australia. Aspect one is feeding when humans are not around.

The Eurasian Nuthatch

One of the two, Krüper’s Nuthatch , is only found in Turkey, Russia, Georgia, and on Lesbos. The Nuthatch , which only visiting birders refer to as an Eurasian Nuthatch , is found throughout temperate Europe and Asia from Portugal to Japan. That leaves only two species with a decent range and a distinct look.

Siberian Chiffchaff in the Altai Mountains

The Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita is an abundant species with an impressive global range that stretches from the West of Europe across Siberia to Russia’s far East, just falling short of reaching the Bering Straits by a laughable 800 kilometres, a fact one individual apparently found too awkward to bear. But easy ain’t all.
