Fish and Wildlife Service has listed the “Rufa” population of Red Knot ( Calidris canutus rufa ) as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The other sub-species, Calidris canutus roselaari , migrates along the Pacific Coast and breeds in Alaska and the Wrangel Island in Russia.

I was looking for a new project to write about on Wikipedia, something unusual, and this species appealed for reasons I can’t quite define. I wondered about whether that could be extrapolated for the region (Santa Fe) or even the whole southern part of its range (Argentina and Uruguay). It was both mysterious and plain. .

From these notes, there seems to have been a long term presence of this species in the sunshine state. where are these birds coming from?
